The Petra Jacket is knitted from the top down. First, the upper part of the back is knitted with increases. Then, the shoulder sections are knitted from stitches picked up along the top of the back piece. Stitches are picked up along the edges of the shoulder sections so that all the yoke stitches are on the circular needles and can be knitted back and forth, first with sleeve increases and later with raglan increases. The body is knitted back and forth on the circular needles. The sleeves are knitted in the round on double-pointed needles or using the Magic Loop technique. Finally, button bands are knitted along the front edges using double knitting, after which a ribbed collar is knitted.
Knit a gauge swatch to find the needle size that gives you the correct gauge. Wash the gauge swatch before measuring the gauge.
Size Guide
The Petra Jacket should have a positive ease of approx. 22 cm compared to your bust measurement. Sizes XXS (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL (5XL) correspond to a bust measurement of 75-80 (80-85) 85-90 (90-95) 95-100 (100-110) 110-120 (120-130) 130-140 (140-150) cm (measured around the body). The measurements of the finished jacket are given on the front of the pattern (note that these measurements only apply if the gauge is maintained). Measure yourself before you start knitting to determine which size will fit you best. If you, for example, measure 90 cm around the bust (or the widest part of your body), you should knit a size S. A jacket in size S has a width of 112 cm and will give the mentioned positive ease of 22 cm in the example above. Size chart available here.
