Few things are quite as cozy as sticking your hands into a pair of warm wool mittens on a chilly day. And if you’ve knitted them yourself, they’re bound to feel just a little bit warmer. Knitting mittens is fun and quick—it doesn’t take long to go from inspiration to cozy creations that are sure to turn heads.
Knitting book author and designer Maja Karlsson has created 35 different mittens, varying in style, character, and yarn weight. The patterns include fingerless mittens and mitts (both with and without flip-top cuffs). Some are really simple, while others are a little more intricate in construction. For example, some of the mittens are knitted from the top down!
The mitten patterns offer plenty of variety—traditional designs that make the most of Sweden’s rich heritage of knitting patterns, as well as completely new ones featuring beautiful motifs from the animal and natural worlds. Many of the mittens are knitted in two or more colours, making them slightly thicker and warmer. There are also solid-colour mittens with lace or cable knitting for days that aren’t quite so cold.
The patterns and charts are clear and easy to follow, and the end of the book includes a technique section that explains more demanding techniques in detail.
Take time to enjoy the book’s photography—each project is presented with clear photos, but there are also exceptionally beautiful lifestyle images that are sure to spark inspiration and imagination.
