The Marie Case is knitted in one piece from the bottom up. First, the bottom section is knitted in stockinette stitch. Then, stitches are picked up along all sides of the bottom, and the sides of the bag are knitted in garter stitch (Garter Slip Stitch in English). Finally, the zipper is sewn on with a needle and thread, and then the lining is sewn into the bag (by machine or by hand). The pattern also includes instructions for sewing the lining.
