Halland knitting tradition – living cultural heritage.
Thank you very much for the book, Slöjdmagasinet says to the author Christel Eriksson.
What a fantastic knitting book! This Bingeboken is a must-have on the bookshelf for everyone with an interest in knitting who wants to pass on traditions. Buy the book! This is a call to all of you who love knitting!
Binge is a Swedish knitting tradition that developed in the 17th century in southern Halland. Historically, "binge" included all types of knitting, but today it refers to two-color knitting with traditional colors associated with the word binge. The traditional colors are red, blue, and white, but all colors are used. As of 2024, binge is included in Sweden's national register of intangible cultural heritage!
When you knit binge, you knit in the round and then cut the knitted fabric with scissors. The book also includes sweaters knitted from the top down with raglan sleeves. However, the patterns are often knitted from the bottom up.
