Merino wool

Merino wool comes from the merino sheep, a sheep that is a crossbreed of several different sheep breeds. The merino sheep has been bred to produce especially thin and fine wool.
Originally, the merino sheep comes from North Africa.
Today, Australia and New Zealand have the largest number of merino sheep.

Merino wool, unlike “regular” sheep wool, is a significantly finer, thinner, and softer fiber. It is very elastic and can therefore be spun into fine-gauge worsted yarn.
The reason for the thin and fine fiber is precisely the thickness of the wool fibers. The thinner the fiber is, the finer the wool becomes.
Thickness is regulated by how the sheep lives and feels!
If the sheep gets to roam on large pastures, gets plenty of exercise and sparse food, the wool fiber becomes thinner and finer.
The merino wool fiber is very curly, which makes it trap air and insulate heat very well!
Merino wool therefore has the properties of warming when it is cold and breathing when it is warm. It is especially good for small children and babies who need warmth and breathable clothing.
